The proper golf stance refers to how one places their feet, body, and club as they prepare to make that swing or tee. A golf stance not only ensures that one gets the perfect shot but also ensures that one is not injured during the swing. It is said that the golf stance for females is meant to be wider than for males. This is for the reason that females have wider hip areas than males and it is a great way to gain balance and is considered comfortable. There are a number of reasons why stance will vary not only between genders but also varies from player to player based on their preference. Getting the proper golf stance involves the feet, the shoulders, and the shoulders. These are the three main areas of the human anatomy that are used when teeing off. To begin with, one must ensure that the feet are firmly set on the ground, then the body weight must be evenly and comfortably distributed and one should not lean forward and rest their weight towards their toes or backwards as this will not help when making a shot. One should not stand too fat or too close to the ball and ones should be hanging downwards from the body and not outwards. One should stand upright then bend forward at an angle but still ensuring that the back is straight. The feet should be place shoulder width apart when the club has made contact with the ball. The length of the golf club determines the position of the ball and the feet. For short irons, the ball must be at the center of one's feet, for medium irons, the ball should be closer to the feet but still centered while for long irons, the ball should be just inside of the feet at the toes. This means that the longer the club, the wider the stance and this step must be executed before spreading out ones feet. Seasoned players will advise one, before making the shot, to tilt and seem like one is looking 'behind' the ball before making the shot. It is at this point that one will swing the club and tee. Women's proper golf stance is considered wider than for males. They are advised to put their feet at a distance wider than shoulder length to support the female form. One can also use what is known as the 'Venus Stance' whereby the female will use her hips to gauge her stance which means it will vary in each female player. The different types of stance include the square stance, the open stance, and the closed stance. The square stance is where the feet and the clubface are directed towards the ball. The open stance is where the foot closest to the ball faces away while the shoulders stay in line with the target. The closed stance is where ones feet and the club seem to be closing in on the ball, or target. Practice determines what ones perfect stance is and professional assistance is encouraged when making that choice.
